I unknowingly stepped on a Chipmunk in my basement once. I’m pretty sure it was dead. It was definitely dead after being stepped on. I was barefoot, so it came as a bit of a surprise.

My father is a lifelong Marine. When I was little a mouse ran by him and he stomped on it. I remember my initial reaction was to laugh followed shortly after by tears. His grin diminished shortly after too when he realized he just squished the thing in front of his three young kids. It’s funny again now though.
